Body Recovery For Structural Collapse Victims Underway: Waterloo – KZN
Disaster Management teams are currently (Friday, 09:49) awaiting the arrival of specialised equipment to assist in the recovery of the
bodies of a woman and her son who were killed after a wall collapsed on their home on Pricklepear Road in Waterloo, KZN.Residents in the area contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) last night (Thursday) at approximately 22:56 requesting assistance at the scene. On arrival, Reaction Officers established that a retaining wall had collapsed onto the roof of the house. A 16 year old male was crushed on his bed. His 59 year old mother was in her bedroom and could initially be heard crying. She then went silent and is also presumed to be deceased. Her elder son managed to escape without injury. Rescuers were unable to enter the building last night due to poor lighting and the risk of further structural collapse.
The recovery will continue during the course of today.
