Decomposing Body Discovered: Riet River – KZN

The partially decomposing body of a 26 year old man was discovered in a bush in Riet River – Verulam a short while ago.

At approximately 10:49 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by the public after the body of Niel Deepchand was found by a man searching the bushes for scrap. The man proceeded to a local scrap yard and met a friend of the deceased who was searching for him. He informed her of his discovery and for a fee of R20 he led her to the location of the body.

Reaction Officers and Medics responded to the call and upon arrival were led down an embankment next to a home. The deceased who lived in the area was located in a bush at the base of the embankment. Rigamortis was present and the body was in the early stages of decomposition.

According to family Niel failed to return home last Friday after he allegedly broke into a neighbors home. Circumstances following the break-in is subject to investigation and it cannot be confirmed if he was a victim of mob justice. He was also a known drug user.

An investigation into the death is currently underway.
