#EskomGauteng Media Release : Suspect arrested for attempted theft
A suspect was arrested on Thursday, 12 July 2018 for malicious damage to property and theft of copper cables at an #Eskom facility in Temba. His accomplice managed to flee the scene and is still on the run.
The arrest follows quick action taken by the Eskom’s security personnel who called the Temba SAPS for back-up after noticing the two suspects inside the premises through the CCTV.
The suspects were seen attempting to leave the Eskom premises with copper from isolators. The suspects gained entry by digging a hole under the office’s precast wall. “Eskom collaborates with the law enforcement agencies to prevent any form of theft and tampering with electricity infrastructure. We urge our communities to play a role in the fight against such crimes by sending their anonymous SMS tip-offs to Crime Line on 32211,” said Solly Papo, Eskom’s head of security in Gauteng.
