From the eyes of our crews:
At approximately 11:10am today a QRS Ambulance was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on the N14, behind the Krugersdorp Game Reserve. Upon arrival with other services they found a taxi and light motor vehicle with a trailer having collided moments earlier. The crew assisted in assessing the occupants on scene. Injuries ranged from mild to moderate for all occupants.
QRS medic, Ruan, heard a loud screeching sound, followed by a crash into the side of the ambulance that remained stationed on scene. The patient who was already injured sustained further injuries and the medic was also hurt. The Hyundai Getz collided in to the side of the ambulance and flipped onto its side. The collision and resultant movement of the vehicles caused the ambulance to strike the daughter of the patient who was standing outside the ambulance.
We would like to extend many thanks to everyone who assisted on scene, especially to those who assisted in ensuring the safety of our crew members.
Please be vigilant on the roads when approaching an accident. Adhere to the rules of the road and follow the instructions of the traffic officials who are on an accident scene. Be aware that medics as well as other officials do walk around on scene and injured people are assessed while an emergency vehicle is on scene. Be patient and aim to reach your destination safely.
