Good evening.
We have noted the confusion caused by the symbol used for our alerts. This is to reiterate that the system expected for Sunday (01/07/2018) into Monday (02/07/2018) is an intense cold front not a Tropical Cyclone. An ‘Adverse Cyclonic System’ describes ‘a storm system characterized by low pressure centre generating strong winds and flooding’. This description can also be used for a cold front which is also known as a Mid-latitude Cyclone. We apologise for the misleading symbol, however, the alert for the system still remains.

Been asked if there is a cyclone on the way. Not really, but it seems SAWS inadvertently appears to be giving some people the impression there is. Sorry SAWS we’re having another dig at you, but those sure are the international meteorological symbols for a cyclone I see on your warning map, and you’ll have to explain to people what ‘adverse cyclonic conditions’ actually refer to 🙂
