A 42 year old businessman suffered severe head injuries after he was attacked by two suspects whilst parked near a sugarcane plantation on the Old Main Road in Canelands – KZN.
Reaction Unit South Africa was called out to the scene by an off duty Metro Police Officer who was passing through the area. Upon arrival Reaction Officers found the man bleeding profusely from several open wounds to his head. Paramedics stabilized the man & he was transported privately to hospital.
Reaction Officers interviewed a female who was in the company of the injured man. She informed Officers that she was seated in the front passengers seat when two african males attacked them with a metal pipe & a knobkerrie. The suspects then asked the injured man if he owned a firearm. The suspects fled with R400 in cash & a Samsung mobile phone. Reaction Officers, Metro Police & the Umhlali Dog Unit members searched the area with negative results.
Reaction Unit South Africa has responded to several attacks in the same vicinity in recent months. Two unknown suspects armed with metal pipes attack couples who park their vehicles along the roadside or sugar cane plantation and engage in sexual activities. In most cases criminal cases are not opened as the complainants are embarrassed. RUSA has repeatedly warned the public to refrain from parking in this area & if possible to use alternate route whilst traveling between Tongaat, Verulam & King Shaka International Airport.
