Mooinooi 'master brain' pleads innocent in another murder case.
"Innocent." That's what Koos Strydom, the man charged with the murder of Mandie Jansen van Rensburg, pleaded on Tuesday in the High Court in Mogwase. Strydom and his co-accused are charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, the illegal exploitation of a firearm, and the illegal possession of ammunition.
The state's first witness, who does not want to be identified, worked with the second accused for a long time, and their relationship was good.
According to the witness, the second accused acknowledged that he had shot Mandie dead on 25 June in exchange for a vehicle that Strydom would give him and R10 000 that he would receive. He was drunk when he told her about the crime.
She also testified that the second accused, according to her knowledge, received a white pickup from Strydom shortly after Mandie's murder. He later sold it. "I do not know about the money, " she said.
Strydom's co-accused repeatedly shook his head during her testimony and denied everything through his attorney.
The witness also said that “boss Koos" regularly made jokes that Jansen van Rensburg "will not see December 2014".
The court further heard that Strydom had offered her a car and R10 000 on more than one occasion not to testify against him. "I did not take it."
Strydom also allegedly contacted her while in detention until recently two weeks ago.
Another man, who cannot be identified now because he is also on the state's witness list, also phoned her one time and said she should be careful because Strydom wants to "take her, her boyfriend and her children out."
She did not report anything to the police, believing Strydom's promise that he would kill her.
She testified there was also a robbery at the scrap yard at Jansen van Rensburg's smallholding at the time when she worked there. She said Strydom's co-accused had locked her in a toilet during the robbery and prevented the robbers from reaching her. She was pregnant at the time of the incident.
"When I told Koos about the incident, he told me "yes, they were meant for you.”
Adv. Tiro Gonyane, the legal representative for Strydom's co-accused, accused the witness of keeping this information for four years and asked why she did?
"I went to the police … I was scared all the time because he threatened me."
Gonyane argued that his client only speaks Tsonga and cannot perform a fluent conversation in "fanagalo"."He spoke English to me and told me what was happening," the witness replied. Adrian Nell, Strydom's legal representative, briefly questioned the witness before court adjourned for the day.
