An unidentified man has been killed after being run over on the northbound lane of the R102 between the Verulam and Ottawa robots a short while ago.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene after receiving multiple calls from the public reporting the accident. One caller stated that the BMW M3 that ran over the pedestrian had fled the scene.
Medics were dispatched to the location of the accident while RUSA Officers searched for the vehicle. Officers found the extensively damaged vehicle parked at the entrance of Inanda Road. The driver claimed that following the accident he was unable to stop due to him being in the centre of two trucks. He went on to explain that while travelling up the R102 the pedestrian ran onto the road and in his path of travel.
Medics assessed the critically injured man and found that he had suffered life-threatening injuries of which he died on scene. Witnesses reported seeing the pedestrian being thrown several metres in the air following the impact.
The driver of the BMW M3 was not injured.
