Police continue with operation clampdown in Sophiatown

Gauteng: Operation clampdown in Sophiatown focusing on drug related crime has an impact on general criminal activities as more people comes forward to report crime. Over the weekend eight (8) people were arrested for domestic violence related crimes including assault with grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property and defeating the course of justice. Two (2) suspects were also arrested for murder cases committed during July and August this year while other two (2) were arrested for possession of drugs.

Both murder suspects were arrested for two incident committed in Westbury. On the 24 of July, the deceased, Bradley Sauls, was found dead behind a silver Toyota Runx with a bullet wounds on the upper body. Two spent cartridges were found at the scene. At the time of the incident the suspect was unknown. Police investigation and information from the members of the public lead to the arrest of the suspect who is due to appear in court this week. The second suspect was arrested for the murder of Mrs Peterson who was shot and killed on 27 of September 2018 near Tamboekie Court. The suspect will be joining others who are already appearing in court charged with murder and attempted murder.

Stop and search operation by SAPS and Johannesburg Metro Police also resulted in the arrest of eleven (11) suspects for driving under the influence of liquor or intoxicating drugs. All the suspects were arrested during the weekend and appeared in Sophiatown Magistrate Court yesterday.

More operations are continuing to clamp down on drugs and other violent crimes. Police are appealing to members of the public to report all criminal activities. Any information may anonymously be reported to Crime Stop at 08600 10111 at all hours. Information on serious and violent crimes may be rewarded.
