Runaway Child Fabricates Murder Story: Verulam – KZN

An 11 year old girl found wandering aimlessly in Hilltop, Canelands – KZN fabricated a story that she fled her home after her uncle had been murdered by her family.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the area at approximately 18:37 (Friday) after the child related her story to a man who located her. On arrival, Reaction Officers interviewed the child who stated she fled her home after her grandmother and uncle murdered & decapitated a relative who lived with them. She stated that the deceased’s body was on a sofa and his head was on the floor of the living room.

Reaction Officers transported the girl to her home in an area known as Number 4 near Trenance Park – KZN to verify her version of events. The child directed Officers to a house that was locked and unoccupied. Residents recognised the girl and approached RUSA Members. They stated that the girl was known to them and was being untruthful with regards to the incident and the location of her residence. They led Reaction Officers to her actual home which was situated in the same area. Her grandmother, aunt and both her uncles were at the residence. They confirmed that the female did not return from school and they were in the process of launching a search party to locate her.

Her grandmother who is the child’s legal guardian after he mother abandoned her, stated that the minor had run away from home on several occasions and will be seeking assistance from Social Workers on Monday.
