SAPS Motherwell Cluster gearing up and performing #SaferFestiveSeason Operations

With the onset of the closing of schools and factories the community of Nelson Mandela Bay is entering into the run up towards the peak season. Families are flocking towards the Bay using public and private transport on the main roads leading in and out of the Bay.
Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie has warned local as well as incoming holiday makers that SAPS will not be tolerating crimes involving the misuse of alcohol and drugs. "The use of our roads to transport illegal drugs, stolen goods, stolen livestock and stolen vehicles as well as unlicensed fire arms will be halted through our SAPS roadblocks" he added. "We are appealing to motorists to remain calm and patient when encountering these roadblocks."
SAPS also wish to remind shoppers doing their Christmas shopping to be vigilant and safety conscious in terms of valuables and cellphones being carried in shopping malls. Keep vehicles and homes locked when leaving them unattended and refrain from drawing large sums of cash at ATM's and banks. Stokvel organisers in particular are urged to be extra careful when doing their cash distributions in a controlled and safe environment.
"We all have a responsibility towards the concept of #SaferFestiveSeason, and as SAPS we will continue to hold special operations and campaigns such as #SafetyFriday" General Rabie added.
The official opening of the season which takes place this weekend will result in large number of persons visiting beachfronts and the Swartkops River. Supervision of children while swimming and enjoying the festive atmospheres are the duties of parents. Only use safe identified swimming venues and no alcohol will be allowed to be consumed on our roads or public spaces.
SAPS wish to urge holiday makers and local communities to enjoy their family times and festivities, but to remain alert against crime during this period leading up to the peak season.
