A worker was trapped beneath soil and rubble for nearly three hours this afternoon in Beaumont Road in the Bluff South of Durban.
Around 1pm Rescue Care Paramedics responded to multiple calls of a person trapped beneath a building that had collapsed. On arrival they found the workers trapped under sand and rubble after a structure collapsed where workers were working. The man was trapped by his lower limbs. A careful rescue was performed by SAPS Search and Rescue, Durban Fire Department and Rescue Care Paramedics. The Rescue took close to three hours whilst rescuers used multiple techniques to free the man. Once freed he was placed into an awaiting ambulance before being transported to a nearby Hospital for the further care that he required. A second worker had also sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by Paramedics.
At this stage the events leading up to the structure collapsing is unknown however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
