Young woman murdered: Suspect may have many victims.
He lured his victims under the pretext that he could arrange work for them in Wellington. There he took them to his wooden house in Saint Mark Street, Newton, Wellington, and repeatedly raped them in the darkness before killing them. The alleged rapist/ murderer, 46, appeared in court on Wednesday for the murder of Chantell Matthyssen (21) of Sarepta, Kuils River, and the assault and rape of his 24- year-old ex-girlfriend.
On Wednesday he also pointed out Maria Isaacs’s body (34). Isaacs was reported missing at the Malmesbury police station on June 17 this year by her family.
The alleged rapist/ murderer reportedly advertised on Facebook that he could find work for people on farms in the Wellington area. Isaacs, who lived on a farm in the Malmesbury area, was taken to Wellington by a relative.
Here, the accused picked her up at the meeting point in the town centre.
Her family did not hear from her again. They reported her as missing to police, and reported that Isaacs was last seen alive with the accused.
According to information, the accused was arrested on the farm Ongegund just outside Wellington on Sunday because of the murder of Matthyssen.
He pointed out Matthyssen’s body covered under branches on Monday.
He was officially charged on Tuesday.
Matthyssen took a train to Wellington on Saturday 23 June for a job that the accused would arrange for her. Her mother, Carol Petersen, 46, reported Matthyssen missing as soon as she arrived in Wellington and she no longer had telephone contact with her mother. Her mother said Tuesday that the accused would work for Matthyssen as a packer on a farm in the area. The accused was regarded by her parents as a family friend. He appeared on four charges in the magistrate’s court in Wellington on Wednesday, one of assault with the purpose of seriously injuring, two charges of rape and one charge of murder. The assault and rape charges relate to the assault and rape of his ex-girlfriend on June 27 this year. Due to the rape allegation she may not be identified. He held her hostage in his wooden house and repeatedly stabbed her with a knife in her back. He also hit her and then raped her twice. The woman had an interdict against him and they would appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on 6 July. A source familiar with the case said on Wednesday that he might be charged with at least two more charges of rape and one of murder – the possibility that he has also raped Maria Isaacs, her murder, as well as the possible rape of Matthyssen – can still be added to the charge sheet.
However, according to sources in Wellington, the police are now also looking at the disappearance of Natalie Jonkers, 35, almost six years ago. She apparently disappeared without a trace after she left with Williams. He would apparently arrange for Jonkers to meet with a small loan officer who could help her to clear her debt. Klara Davids, Jonkers’ mother, told the court on Wednesday that the Wellington police had hardly looked into Jonkers’s disappearance six years ago.
Bettie Goodman, the accused ‘s landlord, said on Wednesday that she informed the police about Isaac’s disappearance when they came to look for Matthyssen at her home. “I did not see Isaacs myself, but my son saw her on Saturday, June 16 when she arrived here with him.” the accused then told them that Isaacs was his niece.
The next day he said Isaacs was back home with her family, who happened to be on a farm in the area. “When the police searched for Matthyssen, I told them about the other woman who was here too and not seen again.” The case against the accused was postponed on Wednesday until 13 July. He said his brother would arrange for legal representation.
