KwaZulu-Natal: At 10H17 Monday morning Netcare 911 responded to reports of a collision on the M4 North Bound between La Lucia and Umhlanga Rocks in Durban.

Reports from the scene indicate that a SUV and two light motor vehicles were involved in a collision.

Medics assessed the scene and found that four adult males sustained serious injuries and required Advanced Life Support intervention to stabilise them.

A Netcare 911 Rescue Technician with the Ethekwini Fire and Rescue services used the "Jaws of life" to free one of the occupants trapped in the wreckage.

Due to the nature of one of the patients injuries a medical helicopter ambulance was activated to airlift one of the patients.

Circumstances leading up to the collision will be investigated by the Durban North SAPS who were on scene.
