2019 SAPS National Chess Championships Official Opening in Kimberley from 23-30 October 2019. Let the games begin!

NORTHERN CAPE – This year the Northern Cape local organizing committee under the leadership of Chairperson of the SAPS National Chess Association, Brigadier Willem Slabbert will host the tournament which comprises all nine provinces including head office fighting for the coveted grand master title.

The Northern Cape SAPS Band that performed well during POLMUSCA Festival rendered melodic performance. In attendance was Major General Joey Kers, National Chairperson: SAPS Chess Association Brigadier Willem Slabbert and Northern Cape HRD Col Ivan Haai.

Keynote address was delivered by Major General Joey, who highlighted challenges facing society and urged players to mentor a child as this contributed positively to the community and wellbeing just as the game of chess does.

Word of thanks was done by Lt Col Matsio, thanking all members for their attendance.
