KwaZulu-Natal: At 10H32 Thursday morning Netcare 911 responded to reports of workers trapped in an underground tank initially thought to be a storm water pipe.

Reports from the scene indicate that three workers cleaning an underground collection tank believed to contain diesel and oil when they were overcome by gas.

The SAPS Search and Rescue, Durban Metro Police Search and Rescue, Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services set up a rope and ladder system with breathing apparatus to enter the tank extricated three adult males.

All three patients had difficulty breathing and required Advanced Life Support interventions to stabilise them.

Once treated the patients were transported by various ambulance services to hospital for further treatment.

All necessary authorities were on scene.
