Matriculants attending #RageFestival urged to practice safety & celebrate responsibly
Safety tips:
Plan ahead and be prepared. Keep emergency contact information on your phone and somewhere else safe (in case you lose your phone). Don’t put yourself into dangerous or solitary situations and make sure you know how you are getting home each night.
Be crime conscious – be aware of crime opportunities at all times!
Never walk around alone and don’t talk to strangers. Be on the lookout for strange cars or people.
It is always better to explore in groups and to stick to well-lit, busy streets. Be mindful of your friends, never leave a friend behind. Plan your route beforehand and, as far as possible, do not ask directions from strangers. A police officer or traffic officer will be happy to direct you if you get lost. Always let someone know where you are going and how long you will be gone.
Know all emergency numbers.
Trust your instinct.
Avoid going onto a congested street where you cannot even walk properly, which is where you will find criminals pick pocketing.
Avoid displaying valuables where criminals can see them.
You have the right to say NO.
Never hitch-hike.
Do not accept an offer from anybody.
Be firm and clear and say NO! You have the right to do so.
Do not leave a party or social event with someone you do not know or have just met.
At social events, do not leave your cold drinks or drinks unattended.
Ask friends to help you if you say NO!
Make sure you have the number of a shuttle services or designated rage ride vehicles at hand in case you get stranded.
Don’t drink and drive! Arrive Alive. Drugs are illegal and offenders caught with them at the festival will be handed over to the police. Say NO to drugs! Pace yourself, exercise moderation, drink and celebrate responsibly.
Know the festival guidelines, refer to the rage festival website.
Make sure you read up about safety at the festival, where to stay, how Rage Rides operate and everything else you need to know to plan your Rage Festival experience on the Rage Festival website.
