Alleged RAF fraudster appears in court
EASTERN CAPE – Lindile Ralane (39) appeared in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 20 August 2021 for charges of road accident fund (RAF) fraud after his arrest
on 19 August 2021.It is alleged that in December 2017, Ralane reported a case of reckless and negligent driving where he claimed to be the victim of the accident as a pedestrian. He subsequently submitted a claim to RAF for compensation.
RAF officials discovered that a similar accident occurred in Queenstown where the same details were recorded with no pedestrian involved before the payment could be made. RAF was nearly prejudiced cash of R7 million.
RAF referred the matter to Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation for probing which resulted in his arrest. He was released on a R500 bail and the matter was remanded to 25 August 2021 in Regional Court.
