WESTERN CAPE – In the quest to rid certain communities plagued by gang violence of illegal firearms that are generating serious violent crimes, Anti-Gang Unit members embarked on an intelligence led operation early this morning in Lavender Hill. The team descended on several dwellings in tandem where they seized four firearms and rounds of ammunition.
In the first house in Botha Street, armed with information they arrested a 51-year-old woman and seized a 9mm pistol with rounds of ammunition.
Shortly thereafter in Grindle Avenue, a 31-year-old male was arrested with another 9mm pistol and ammunition.
More information led the team to the third place also in Grindle Avenue where they found a .38 special revolver with ammunition and arrested a 45-year-old male.
Information from this operation, led the AGU team to De Waal Court where an 18-year-old was found in possession of another 9mm pistol and ammunition.
All four arrested suspects who are believed to be linked to a local gang are expected to appear in court on Monday on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Western Cape police management has commended the unrelenting efforts of the Unit to rid communities of firearms that generate murders and other violent crimes.
