Commanders leading #MySAPSApp initiative

PRETORIA – Since the launch of the MySAPS App, the Internal Communication team went out and about to have conversations with employees of the South African Police Service (SAPS) to find out whether they are aware of and are heading the call to join the winning team that prides itself with the MySAPS App.

Since most of us are well aware that we are in the fourth industrial revolution (4IR), therefore the SAPS is expected to keep up with the technological pace. The MySAPS App is a step in the right direction to breathe life into crime-fighting initiatives involving technology.

Speaking to Brigadier Ramakamakama Kekana, who is the Station Operational Advisor at the Rietgat Police Station, said that employees are the carriers of the organisation’s messages to the community. “Times have changed, so are crime-fighting initiatives. Take advantage of this App that enables citizens to send crime tip-offs in the comfort of their homes at their fingertips,” said Brigadier Kekana during the interview with Internal Communication team working together with Rietgat Communication team.

Meanwhile, the Rietgat Station Commander, Colonel Hlatshwayo who also has the App on her mobile phone, made it part of her daily duty during on and off duty parades, station lectures and other meetings to encourage her team to also do the same, by downloading the MySAPS App and spreading the word to the community. She reckons that by encouraging and highlighting the importance of the MySAPS App to friends, neighbours, children and the entire society, we can live together in a society that puts safety first. “If all of us can use the available app tools, such as taking videos or pictures of suspects or any illegal activities, including providing more information and sharing them on the MySAPS App, South Africa can be a safer place. It cannot be right that a perpetrator fights a police official or commit any other unlawful act, and such incident is recorded and circulated on social media, before reporting it to the authorities.

You have no excuse because the App has all the tools to enable the public send tip-off incidents to the authorities with complete information,” said Colonel Hlatswayo before she called on all to turn the tide against crime in the comfort of their homes at their fingertips.

The new app allows citizens to interact with law enforcement officials more effectively by:

• Providing tip-offs anonymously through the app
• Finding nearest police stations and facilities
• Having quick access to all the SAPS Social Media platforms.
