Convicted bank card skimming syndicate awaits sentencing.
EASTERN CAPE – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has welcomed the conviction of two Eastern Cape man for bank card cloning and fraud.
Between the period of June and November 2009 a card cloning syndicate was operating in the greater Port Elizabeth area.
Hawks’ investigation revealed that these fraudulent transactions amounted to approximately more than R33 352.81 and $20 682.82 which is equivalent to about R340 000.
The two accused, Siyabulela Cenga (39), and Thobelani Jayiya (40), were arrested by the Port Elizabeth Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in November 2009, and charged for contravening the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication Related Information (RICA) Act.
A watertight case presented by the investigators culminated in their conviction by the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The case has been postponed to 06 October 2020 for sentencing.
