Eastern Cape: Breakthrough in Addo housebreaking case
King William’s Town: The Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll has applauded the team of dedicated detectives of SAPS Addo for arresting seven suspects (two females and five males) in the early hours of this morning, 20 December 2018, in connection with the burglary at a guesthouse in Selborne over the past weekend (16 December 2018).
It is alleged that the suspects gained entry to one of the rooms of a guesthouse, during the night of 15 and 16 December 2018, whilst the Pretoria complainant was attending a wedding at another venue. The suspects fled with electronic equipment worth more than R150 000.00 (Cameras, laptops, etc.) and the case was reported on 16 December 2018 at the SAPS in Addo. Detectives received valuable information early this morning and a team of detectives were set up and the breakthrough was made at about 06:00, on 20 December 2018 when the team searched the residential homes of the suspects in the Addo area. Various electronic items belonging to the Pretoria complainant was recovered during the searches. The seven suspects are due to appear in the Kirkwood Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 December 2018 on charges ranging from housebreaking and theft and possession of suspected stolen goods.
Brigadier Koll said: “The dedication and tireless efforts displayed by our investigators in ensuring the successful and speedy arrests of perpetrators paid off and the culprits were behind bars soon after committing the offence”. “The safety of our community, which include visitors from neighbouring provinces and tourists remains one of our priorities, and we will remain resolute to ensure their safety at all costs, however we need the assistance of the community to continue to work with the SAPS”.
