Free State: Provincial launch of #SaferFestiveSeason – #ZizojikaIzinto – Turning the tide against crime
ZAMDELA – To ensure that all people in the Free State Province are safe and feel safe, the MEC for Police Roads and Transport, Mr Sam Mashinini launched the Provincial Safer Festive Season Campaign in Zamdela at the Multipurpose Centre in Zamdela near Sasolburg under the theme, Zizojika Izinto – turning the tide against crime. The launch was coupled with the formalization of the Anti-Gang Unit, the Bikers Squad and the Community in Blue Concept. During the launch the Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Operational Services, Major General Solly Lesia, handed over the Operational Plan to the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Moeketsi Sempe.
In response thereof, the Provincial Commissioner explained to the community that the Operational Plan, a document that is going to be used to minimise criminal activities in the Free State. With reference to the formalisation of the teams, the Anti-Gang Unit comprised of Public Order Policing, Vispol, Detectives, and Crime Intelligence will assist in dealing with gang related issues in the Province. The Biking Squad, which will be based in Bloemfontein for now, will be used to enforce the activation plan in incidents that are not accessible with vehicles. The Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Patrollers were given reflector jackets that will make them visible and identifiable. #PoliceVisibility
In response to the questions posed by the community, the National Police Commissioner, General Sitole during his address emphasized on the various forces that will be engaged in stabilisation and normalisation phases so as to ensure the safety of all people during the festive season and beyond while urging members of the community to work with the SAPS in the fight against crime.
