Gauteng: At 12H46 Tuesday afternoon Netcare 911 responded to reports of a drowning at a complex in Craighall Johannesburg.

Reports from the scene indicate that a 10-year-old female was swimming with her sister when it's believed she had downed.

A neighbour who had seen the child at the bottom of the pool jumped in to retrieve the her.

The neighbour who was also trained in first-aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation began bystander CPR when she noticed the child had no pulse and was not breathing.

When medics arrived on scene the child had already gained a pulse and was conscious.

The child was assessed and found to be in a stable condition.

The family then elected to transport the child privately to hospital.

This case highlights the importance of learning CPR as soon as possible.

Had it not been for the neighbour trained in CPR and first-aid the outcome would have been different.
