Gauteng: More than 150 suspects arrested as police pounce on wanted criminals in Tshwane and Ekurhuleni

Parktown – The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Ms Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane and Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela led a multidisciplinary Operation O Kae Molao in Pretoria West on Thursday 04 April 2019 and similar operations were conducted in Pretoria North on Friday and Ekurhuleni on Saturday.

These operations led to the arrest of more than one hundred and fifty (150) suspects for various crimes and included tracing of wanted suspects, roadblocks, raiding of illegal liquor outlets and verification of second hands goods dealership compliance.

One and forty five (145) of suspects wanted for serious and violent crimes, such as murder, car hijacking, business and house robberies, were arrested by the detectives.

During the roadblocks several cars were stopped and searched. Fines to the value of R76 800 were issued to motorists, including two Tshwane Municipality bus drivers that loaded 174 school children in a 99 seater bus and 110 school children in a 76 seater bus. Four (04) vehicles were discontinued and one (01) vehicle impounded.

Twelve (12) liquor outlets were closed, five suspects arrested and liquor to the value of R800 000 confiscated as the suspects operated without valid silences. Police also seized 70 illegal cigarettes and confiscated gambling machines.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, promised the community of Gauteng that Operation O Kae Molao will continue in order to ensure that the community in the province are and feel safe all the time. The MEC shared the same sentiment. "I am delighted with the overall impact "Operation O Kae Molao" is making in our respective communities. For a very long time our society has been marred by incidents of crime and lawlessness perpetrated by senseless criminals. The time has come to enforce the rule of law and order. This will go a long way in restoring the trust of law enforcement agencies in our society. I also wish to urge the police to continue to intensify such operations to stamp their authority and reclaim the streets of Gauteng without fear or favour. Criminals are a minority, therefore we cannot allow them to instil fear in our respective policing precincts," said MEC Nkosi-Malobane. #OperationOkaeMolao #PoliceVisibility #FightingCrime
