Hijacked Vehicle Recovered: Canelands – KwaZulu Natal
An Isuzu 250 DT bakkie that was hijacked by two suspects was recovered by members of Reaction Unit South Africa abandoned in a cane field in Canelands – Verulam a short while ago.
The 42 year old victim was on his way from Emona in Tongaat to pick up a relative who had been discharged from Osindisweni Hospital when he stopped on the side of the road to urinate. He left his bakkie idling due to it having a problem with the starter. Two suspects approached him from the back and assaulted him with a metal pipe.
The injured man fled on foot while the suspects got into his vehicle which he had purchased two days ago and drove into the cane field. The victim was assisted by a passerby who dropped him off at RUSA Offices in Verulam. The man was bleeding excessively from a laceration to his head and hand. He was treated on scene by medics.
A description of the bakkie was circulated to Reaction Officers who patrolled the cane fields in search of the suspects and the hijacked bakkie. After an extensive search the bakkie was recovered abandoned on an unpaved road. The keys were found on the driver’s seat and a Sony MP3 player was stolen.
A search was conducted for the suspects however no arrests were made.
