JUSTICE SERVED ON FRAUDSTER:
Darren Pillay was finally sentenced to 8 years imprisonment and spent his first night in prison last night.
Pillay was found guilty at the end of 2019 in the Durban Specialised
Commercial Crimes Court on 21 counts of fraud. Pillay had defrauded transport companies of millions of rands by acting as a broker and not paying across monies received for loads. He also fabricated false proof of payments to transport companies.Pillay tried multiple different strategies to avoid being imprisoned but his luck finally ran out yesterday.
The three people that made this conviction possible were:
• Senior State Advocate Wendy O’Brien from the NPA.
• Captain Mpungose from the Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit of the DPCI.
• Glenda Paul, Director of IRS Forensic Investigations.
