KwaZulu-Natal Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS)

A few photos of Netcare 5 a specialised helicopter ambulance arriving at a trauma case in Waterfall, Durban.

The patient was left in a critical condition due to a very traumatic injury on the day of the incident and, almost a month later under the care of specialist Doctors and nurses is doing well in hospital.

Many facits through the entire chain of survival are part of this successful mission; one of those being the time it took for the patient to recieve definitive care by a team of Emergency Care Practitioners.

An airborne intensive care unit was brought to the patient within a matter of minutes of the initial call being recieved by the Netcare 911 Operations Centre.

This limited resource underpins the value an air ambulance with highly skilled Emergency Care Practitioners plays in saving lives.
