Launch of the safer festive season operation in Kimberley #SaferFestiveSeason
NORTHERN CAPE – SAPS launched Safer Festive Season Operation in Kimberley, Monday 25 November 2019. Led by the Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape Lieutenant General Risimati Shivuri, Deputy Provincial Commissioner Maj Gen Koliswa Otola, Maj Gen Joey Kers together with the Premier Dr Zamani Saul and MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ms Nontobeko Vilakazi.
The Provincial Commissioner encapsulated to the Premier and MEC the purpose and objective of the operation, which in particular is to decisively address the scourge of crime during festive season, to ensure safer communities during this time of family and friends.
The Premier welcomed the launch pledging his support to the Provincial Commissioner with an aim to make the Northern Cape the safest province in the country.
In an emphatic and acrobatic fashion the Provincial Commissioner absailed down from a four storey high building of the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison to officially hand over the Safer Festive Season Operation plan to the Premier and MEC.
The PC, Premier, MEC together with police members, SARS, DTSL, Home Affairs, Municipal Traffic, Emergency Medical Services, CPF and Neighbourhood Watch conducted foot patrols.
Airwing conducted air patrols and road blocks were also conducted on the N12 and Galeshewe. A total number of 134 suspects were arrested since morning as part of the operation.
