“There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to helping others without expecting anything in return.”
– Nelson Mandela

As part of the initiative by the South African Police Service in Limpopo to execute social responsibility duties in line with the Nelson Mandela centenary celebrations, the police changed the lives of the disadvantaged children for the better in Morutjie Village outside Tzaneen where preschool children used to be housed in a dilapidated facility.

The initiative was led by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, accompanied by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner Human Resource Management, Major General Christine Morakaladi, other Senior police officers and members from across the province.

The Lesedi Day Care Centre was identified as one of the centers the needed assistance and the men and women in blue did not hesitate to join hands to build a two roomed Wendy house for storage and renovate classrooms.

The Provincial Choir entertained and mesmerised the masses with the traditional vocal music and donated groceries, bedding and kitchen utensils from their own pockets.

The Provincial Commissioner also lend a helping hand and addressed the community about the significance of social responsibility. He applauded everyone for their hospitality and encouraged them to continuously make contributions to Community Development Projects.

“The police have today demonstrated that, in addition to fighting crime, they are able to make a meaningful contribution towards poverty alleviation,” said Lieutenant General Ledwaba.
