Media Invitation: Police Minister to launch the firearms amnesty period
PRETORIA – Police Minister General Bheki Cele will on Thursday 28 November 2019 address the National Press Club in Pretoria.
Minister Cele will be speaking on the recently approved Firearms Amnesty that kicks off on the 1st of December.
The amnesty period was approved by Parliament last week. It is part of Governments plan to tackle the proliferation of firearms in our communities and to deal decisively with excess of illegal firearms and unwanted firearms.
The Police Minister also plans to outline the SAPS Safer Festive Season campaign and highlight what the men and women in blue will be doing differently this year in order to “Turn the Tide against Crime” This as the SAPS has adopted the call “Zizojika Izinto” going into the festive season and as the country marks the start of 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.
