National Commissioner applauds the take-down of multimillion rand drug labs
PRETORIA – The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Khehla John Sitole has applauded the take down of two clandestine drug laboratories, one in Gauteng and the other in Mpumalanga.
During an intelligence-driven multi-disciplinary integrated operation, our teams simultaneously swooped on premises in Diepkloof (Soweto) in the Gauteng Province and Middleburg in Mpumalanga Province where they uncovered large clandestine mandrax manufacturing operations taking place.
The occupant of the house in Diepkloof was arrested after it was found that the house was being used as a storage facility for drug manufacturing chemicals. In Middleburg, seven suspects were arrested for the alleged running of a clandestine drug laboratory.
"This is a major breakthrough in our efforts to combat drug abuse in our country and every time we uncover such laboratories, we nip the problem of drug manufacturing and distribution in the bud,” said General Sitole.
"I have conveyed my praise and appreciation to the members of Crime Intelligence and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation for this sterling work,” added General Sitole.
We welcome any information on crimes preferably before they are committed. People with information may contact our toll-free Crime Stop number 086 00 1011. Callers may remain anonymous and all information will be treated with strictest confidence.
