Northern Cape: High #PoliceVisibility in Kimberley and surrounding areas

High police visibility in and around Kimberly has been intensified ahead of community meeting scheduled to start at 15:00 this afternoon.

The community is meeting in order to decide on the way forward regarding their demand for the Sol Plaatje Mayor to be removed. Some community members want the Mayor to continue while others are baying for his removal.

Community March last Thursday became violent when the community hall, satellite police station, building’s windows were damaged and businesses looted by protesters.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri has reiterated that lawlessness wont be tolerated and that appropriate measures will be taken for anyone transgressing. #ProtestAction
