O Kae Molao: Over 180 suspects arrested and firearms recovered during a number of crime combatting operations across Gauteng
PARKTOWN: Over 180 suspects will on Monday 04 March 2019 appear in various courts in Gauteng after they were arrested during several crime combating operations conducted across the Province.
Operations run weekly from Thursday into the weekend where the SAPS works closely with respective Metro Police Departments, Provincial Traffic Police, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations, Road Traffic Management Corporation, SARS Customs, ICASA, Telkom, Brand Owners, and other law enforcement agencies addressing various forms of crime, offences and issues of non-compliance.
This last bout of operations saw Police arrest eight suspects on Thursday where members of Benoni Flying Squad were pursuing two suspicious vehicles from a bank in Protea Glen to Kempton Park. The vehicles were intercepted at Allandale Road and police recovered two pistols with no serial numbers in the car, with one of them loaded.
In a separate operation in the Johannesburg CBD, police caught five (5) robbers in the act during a business robbery at a chain store. Two illegal firearms were recovered.
All recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to establish possible linkage to previous serious and violent crimes.
