October was declared Transport Month in 2005. It seeks to raise awareness of the important role of transport in the economy, and to invite participation from civic society and business, in providing a safer, more affordable, accessible and reliable transport system for the country.

During this period road safety awareness is heightened to improve behavior of road users.

The use of public transport is also encouraged to reduce traffic.

24/7 heightened law enforcement operations and educational awareness activities will be rolled out throughout the month.

The President of the Republic of South Africa will today officially launch the 2019 Transport Month together with the revamped Arrive Alive Campaign on the N3 weigh Bridge in Heidelberg. #OTM2019 Fikile Mbalula
