Operation “O Kae Molao” continues to make inroads as police arrest 20 suspects in relation to illicit mining

PARKTOWN – Police on Tuesday afternoon, 13 August 2019 arrested 20 suspects for illicit mining in Matholesville (Durban Deep) in Roodepoort. This brings to total 30 arrests since the intelligence driven operations targeting illicit mining in the area commenced a week ago.

The integrated deployment of law enforcement officers has during the operations seized equipment believed to be used during the commission of illicit mining; while shacks and other illegal structures have been demolished, and illegal electricity connections and water pipes disconnected.

Organised crime remains a priority for Gauteng's Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, hence the recent operations targeting all forms of organised criminal activities and syndicates.

Members of the public have been cautioned to guard against using their economic status to commit crime because police will not hesitate to arrest any person involved in unlawful activities.

The arrested suspects will appear in Roodepoort Magistrate's Court soon.
