Operation Phakisa yields great success.

Several successes were recorded during the termination of an intelligence-led “Operation Phakisa”, which took place during the past weekend in the Kleinzee, Port Nolloth and Alexander Bay areas. “Operation Phakisa ” focused on the various marine related crimes but had successes above and beyond the focus areas. As part of the operation various vehicle, foot, beach, air, border line and mine patrols were at the order of the day. Harbours and businesses were also visited by the respective teams.
Various SAPS specialised units in conjunction with Department of Environment and Nature conservation(DENC), SAN Parks, SARS Customs unit and Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry(DAFF) were the role players that took part in the search and seizures and arrests at the respectives hot spots during the operation.
One 25 year old male suspect was arrested for Dealing in dagga after police found hydro dagga and normal dagga worth approximately R150 000 in his possession, after raiding his house in Nollothville, Port Nolloth. The suspect should be appearing in court soon. The team held roadblocks and random vehicle check points(VCP) and issued fines worth about R14 000, for different traffic offences in the Alexander Bay and Port Nolloth areas. Police also opened three enquiries into persons who were found to be in alleged illegal possession of bags filled with possible diamond gravel. One male was also fined R2500 for the illegal possession of undersized Rock Lobsters in Port Nolloth.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Risimati Shivuri expressed his delight in the number of successes achieved and stated that police are going out in full force to ensure that everyone is and feels safe during this coming festive season. Lt Gen Shivuri also thanked all other role players and the community for the role they played, which ultimately ensured the success of this operation.
