Police arrested suspects for possession of stolen property

POTCHEFSTROOM – On Tuesday, 16 July 2019, two suspects aged 35 and 36, have been arrested after they were found in possession of railway sleepers between Hartebeesfontein and Klerksdorp.

Members of Flying Squad were on duty when they received information about a white Mitsubishi truck that was being loaded with railway sleepers, near Rietkuil farm outside Hartebeesfontein. They spotted the truck driving towards Klerksdorp and stopped and searched the truck. 58 Railway sleepers were found inside the truck, estimated to be worth R158 000-00, which the suspects could not account for. The truck was seized and the pair was immediately arrested. They are expected to appear before Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 19th July 2019, on charges of possession of stolen property.

In a similar incident, in the early hours of this morning, at the same place as yesterday, the arrest of a trio followed after swift response by the police after a tip-off that a truck was loading materials was received. The Police spotted the truck on the Klerksdorp road, stopped and searched it and found 160 steel sleepers, 148 railway tracks, 3 gas cylinders and 20 litres diesel that were seized with an estimated value of R376 000-00.

The 3 suspects, aged between 26 and 35, were arrested and are expected to appear with the other two suspects tomorrow in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court.
