Police management applauds the multi-disciplinary law enforcement deployment for delivering a safe two-day concert

PARKTOWN: Management of police in the Province have applauded the multi-disciplinary law enforcement deployment that successfully policed the two-day Ed Sheeran concert that took place this past Saturday and Sunday (23-24 March 2019) at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

About 65 900 patrons attended the concert on the first day. The concert ended around 23:00 and the area was cleared within two hours, with no incidents reported.

Meanwhile, 61 400 patrons were recorded as having attended the second day event that ran through to the early hours of Monday morning, 25 March 2019.

On wrapping up the two-day concert, police confirmed on Monday morning, 25 March 2019 that after consolidation, only seven cases had been opened or reported: three for selling liquor without a licence, three cases of theft and one for driving while under the influence of liquor.

Management has expressed gratitude to the deployment that comprised of the South African Police Service, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police, Stadium Management, Private Security, Emergency Services (Medical, Disaster, Fire) and the Computicket for a job well done.

A special word of appreciation was also extended by the Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, to the concert-goers for a great working relationship with police, ensuring that the event ran smoothly with minimum incidents reported.

"The standard of safety and security has been raised and must be maintained for all future events of this magnitude. This can only materialise through taking collective responsibility by both event-goers and law enforcement deployment," cited the Provincial Commissioner.
