Provincial Commissioner urges community to be vigilant during festive season #SaferFestiveSeason

Nelspruit – Holidays are a perfect time to spend with friends and family, it is a time when schools are closed and most firms will be closing as well for the festive season, hence a lot of people are home during this time of the year. It is therefore in that spirit that the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma urges members of the community to be vigilant by taking safety and security precautions seriously over the festive season.

The community should also be alert at all times when using Automated Teller Machines (ATM’s) and not to request assistance from strangers. They must avoid withdrawing and carrying large amounts of cash as a safety measure. Stokvel members are urged to make arrangements with the banks for payment of dividends to individual members. This warning comes in the wake of several Stokvel members who were tasked to withdraw money being mugged and robbed during this period.
Police in the province together with other law enforcement agencies, will collaborate in a bid to fight crime by conducting high density visible and road safety operations to root out criminal activities.

The Provincial Commissioner urged community members to cooperate with the police and be patient when at vehicle checkpoints as well as other operational stations because these measures are put in place solely for their safety. People are urged to be safe, vigilant, obey the rules of the road, the law in general and on that note, I wish all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year,” concluded General Zuma.
