Rapist sentenced, Kuruman #Sentencing #ActAgainstAbuse

Northern Cape: The South African Police Service welcomes the sentences that was handed down to 28-year-old man in the Kathu High Court, yesterday, 22 November 2018. Buti Thonkonyane received 15 years imprisonment for each count of rape (three) and an added five years for the robbery of cell phone from one of his victims. Thonkonyane received twenty years imprisonment in total, as the sentences will be running concurrently.

The accused accosted all his victims in the veld in Dithakong Village, threatened them with a knife and raped them. The first incident happened during March 2016, the second during September 2017 and third in November 2017. The victims are females aged 16, 17, and 19-years-old, respectively. The police searched for the accused and traced him after he was linked to the crimes through DNA and his modus operandi. Thonkonyane was arrested on 23 March 2018 and sentenced on 23 November 2018 for these heinous crimes.
