SAPS welcomes 3701 newly trained members

The South African Police Service (SAPS) held three passing-out parades simultaneously for 3701 newly trained police officials at the Tshwane Training Academy in Gauteng, at the Bisho Academy in the Eastern Cape and Oudtshoorn Academy in the Western Cape.

Of all the cadets, 2370 are male while 1331 are women.

2445 newly trained police officials graduated from the Tshwane Academy, while 825 graduated from Bhisho Academy and 431graduated from Oudtshoorn Academy.

The newly trained police officials that graduated today are the third intake to graduate from the revised Basic Police Training Learning Programme which was introduced in 2016.

The revised programme comprises of an induction phase of one month, which is intended to familiarise trainees with the police station environment and the overall basic activities of the Community Service Centre’s (CSC).

During this phase, trainees develop a better understanding of policing duties which eventually prepares them towards their learning abilities for the duration of the training period at the Academy.

The trainees then proceed to one of the SAPS training academies for a period of eight months where they are trained as police officials. This programme is a combination of practical and theoretical training.

Once completed, members are then deployed as fully-fledged constables to their various police stations across the country, where they serve a one-year probation period, which is also seen as an in-service training programme.

The training programme allows officers to provide an effective and efficient policing service to ensure that the people of South Africa are and feel safe.

These 3701 officers are seen as a force multiplier as they will be deployed across the country just in time for the busy festive season.

“You will join the other SAPS’s members to ensure that South Africa enjoys a safe and peaceful festive season. Always remember to be vigilant and abide by the basic safety rules and regulations, as your safety is of the utmost importance. Thank you in advance for the selfless service you are going to render to the communities and for sacrificing family time to make South Africa safe”, said General Khehla Sitole.

Delivering his keynote address, Minister Bheki Cele encouraged the new recruits to be upstanding officers in their communities and continue with the fight against Gender-Based Violence.

“You must know your Ministerial Six Point Plan on how you should respond to women and children in distress. While I’m confident that the young ladies will play their role in eradicating this scourge, I want to make a special call to the young male officers who are passing-out today. Please assist our young ladies and form a brand new battalion of vicious watchdogs whose responsibility is to rid the community of and protect our women and children against these monsters. Police stations must be places of haven for the abused, and not be places where our people in fact fear being further victimised by those who should protect them”.

As they were deployed to various police stations across the country, the cadets were urged to serve with dedication and pride. To remain focused, implement what they have learnt from the academy, resist temptations, and put the people and laws of this country first.

The next phase of recruits are to commence their training in February/March 2019.

Competent candidates are those that underwent a strict selection process which consisted of Psychometric, Physical, Integrity and Medical assessments.

Successful candidates will be notified telephonically in due course. #PassingOutParade #PoliceTrainees #ServingOurCommunities
