Stepfather remanded in custody for rape of stepdaughter
NELSPRUIT – A 36-year-old man was remanded in custody by the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court today, 05 April 2018, where he was appearing for the alleged rape of his 14-year-old stepdaughter.
The suspect was arrested after the alleged rape, which according to information from police reports, took place at their home where all three are staying. It is reported that the mother recently noticed strange behaviour and self-inflicted cuts by her daughter. She then investigated and discovered that she has been allegedly sexually molested by the stepfather, dating back to 2017. She then reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest by the Nelspruit Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
During investigation it transpired that not only did the suspect sexually molested the victim, but also exposed her to pornographic material. The suspect is facing charges of rape, sexual assault, sexual grooming and displaying of pornographic material to a minor. He is expected back at the same court on 15 April 2019, for a formal bail application.
Meanwhile, two parents, Bheki Hlophe aged 35 and Sibongile Shongwe aged 28 made their second appearance today, at the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder.
Their appearance came after they were arrested for the death of their five year old daughter at their home in Kwadela, Davel on 10 March 2019. They reported that the child died as a result of having fallen from her bed after suffering from a seizure as she was reportedly suffering from epilepsy.
A preliminary investigation suggested that the child had been severely abused by her parents (suspects) as she had bruises all over her body. #ActAgainstAbuse
