Northern Cape: On Wednesday, 01 August 2018, the Kimberley SAPS Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit busted a 39-year-old man with stolen Bonsmara calves. The stock theft and Endangered Species unit members acted on a tipped-off regarding stolen calves which were loaded in a trailer to be sold on auction at Kimberley. The calves were stolen from a small holding at Hartswater in the Northern Cape.
The suspect was arrested red handed on auction site in Kimberley with nine Bonsmara calves valued R81 000, he will appear before the Hartswater Magistrate’s Court soon, on a stock theft charge. The calves were handed back to the rightful owner, after he positively identified them. Investigation is underway and we are expecting to effect more arrest in this case.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Peter Shivuri applauded members of Kimberley SAPS Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit, for arresting the suspect and continued to praise community policing partnership which led to the arrest of the suspect.
