The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri joined the Northern Cape Premier; Dr Zamani Saul together with six of his Members of the Executive Council and Bloodhound CEO Ian Warhurst for the launch and unveiling of the Bloodhound Land Speed Record car in Haskeenpan
NORTHERN CAPE – It was a positive atmosphere with everyone eager and excited to finally lay their eyes on this remarkable project that has been in the works for a decade.
The Director General, Mr Justice Bekebeke was the programme director, Executive Mayor Mr Michael Zikhete warmly welcomed everyone, before the priceless moment everyone was waiting for, to finally see this daring and exceptional machine.
The man behind the wheel Andy Green encapsulated on how the team managed to discover this amazing pan, which he described as being the best they have seen in the world.
The Premier Dr Zamani Saul delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of being the host of a project of this magnitude, a project which will present a lot opportunities to the province, particularly in tourism, an element that will consolidate measures in quest of a Modern growing successful province, furthermore the Premier applauded workers who worked tirelessly on the pan removing tons and tons of stones to ensure the pan is in a good smooth condition.
The supersonic project runs on steel wheels and will attempt to run at a swift 800 km/h in the dry salt pan, through gradual performance enhancement it will ultimately aim for the world record which will see it run at 1600 km/h.
Mr Maruping Matthews Lekwene MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, closed off the event expressing the good opportunity the project will have for the province and relaying appreciation to all stakeholders who ensured the project comes to life.
The event was successfully policed by all stake holders from SAPS, Traffic, EMS and private security without any incident.
