Three arrested for truck-jacking in Durban #TrioCrimes

KwaZulu-Natal: The Rapid Rail Police Unit from Reunion near Umlazi were conducting crime prevention duties when they received intelligence with regards to a hijacked truck in the Clairwood area. Police working together with a tracking company managed to trace the hijacked vehicle to Clairwood with three suspects. All three suspects were arrested for possession of property suspected to be stolen.

Yesterday the truck was on route from Swaziland to Hammersdale to deliver goods. The driver gave two hitch-hikers a lift whilst traveling on the N2 freeway near Swaziland. At 23:00 whilst they were near Salt Rock on the N2, it is alleged that one of the hitch-hikers requested to jump off causing the driver stopped. Three unknown suspects then approached them and pointed the driver with a firearm. The driver fled and the suspects drove away with the truck. The driver reported the matter to the Umhlali Police station.

When they were arrested the suspects were in the process of transferring the trailer with contents to another truck. The container was still sealed and contained goods worth more than R1.5 million. The suspects aged between 30 and 39 will be charged for being in possession of stolen property and will appear in court soon. They will be facing hijacking charges at a later stage.
