Today's Saturday Star regarding the arrest of suspects in the R500 million Electio fraud.

Multiple case have been opened and several suspects have been identified in multiple jurisdictions, including Spain, Serbia, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Dubai, and of course in South Africa. The majority of the South African suspects were proxies for the international syndicate.

Although acting as proxies, the majority of the local suspects eventually realized that this was in fact a sophisticated fraud. Some suspects made voluntary statements whereas other suspects later approached a well known law firm after only after criminal cases had been opened and then submitted statements to the Hawks suddenly claiming to be whistleblowers. It is the chronological time line of events that will prove who are the genuine whistleblowers and who are not.

The prime suspect in this case and who we believe to be the mastermind of the Electio fraud, Arthur Jan Olivier Lodder, is still at large. He is a Dutch citizen, who has been spotted in Spain and in Serbia. We are hoping that our local law enforcement agencies will approach Interpol to authorize an international Red Notice. We expect several more arrests in the coming months, notably of other local South African suspects.
