Neighbourhood Watch Patrollers Shot: Hazelmere – KZN
Two (2) members of a neighbourhood watch patrol team were shot while manning a checkpoint in Hazelmere – KZN last night (Sunday)
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at approximately 23:46 from a member of the neighbourhood watch requesting assistance after the driver of a silver VW Polo opened fired on their team. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched to the location and met with one of the victims who sustained a single gunshot wound to his shoulder. The 36 year old male was treated for his injuries before being transported to hospital by ambulance. A second person was shot in the leg but was transported to a medical facility prior to the arrival of First Responders.
It was alleged that a silver VW Polo (registration unknown) was stopped by the neighbourhood watch at a check-point. The driver informed them that he was visiting his girlfriend in the area. The patrol team offered to escort him to his destination due to him being an unfamiliar face in the area. After travelling a short distance from the check point, the driver of the silver VW Polo stopped and opened fire on the Kia Seltos that was escorting him. The VW Polo then sped off.
Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search for the vehicle however no arrests were made.
